Overview

The Armstrong MBS integrated heating solution is a fully-integrated commercial heating solution for medium-sized applications of 120 to 690kW.

Equally suited to new-build or refurbishment projects, the MBS system is ideal for use in schools, office blocks, hotels, sports arenas, apartment blocks, student accommodation, nursing homes, healthcare facilities, prisons, military establishments and government buildings. Variable-speed pumping reduces electricity consumption and matches duty to load.

A pressure-controlled fill unit automatically fills and maintains the entire system to the preset cold-fill pressure. The system’s sustainable design is easy to relocate or recycle.

A touch-screen panel allows easy and secure access to mode and condition displays, and the system is BMS compatible with preconfigured options for Trend, BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, TCP/IP and GSM modem. Plug-and-play configuration provides a quick, fault-free way to complete power and control wiring; only an incoming supply is required.

The system also features frost protection, time control, holiday programming, night set-back, blocked strainer alarm, system pressure, and supply-and-return temperature.

Composition and manufacture

The MBS system combines the functions of low-NOx gas-fired condensing boilers with intelligent variable-speed circulating pumps, automatic fill/top-up device, expansion vessel, water-treatment dosing, PLC controls, pipework, electrics and thermal insulation.

Performance

A user-friendly integrated controller ensures that an optimal number of boilers is run at the lowest load, supply temperature and flow rate required to maintain preset internal temperatures. The aim is to maintain steady-state conditions by modulating the load so that thermostatic radiator valves and two-port zone valves ideally remain open for as long as possible.

An optimum start device automatically calculates the best time to start up the system each morning, while a weather-compensation device automatically adjusts the system-supply temperature in relation to varying outside temperatures.

Pre-insulated pipework saves energy and reduces site labour, and a built-in dosing pot enables safe dosing of essential water-treatment chemicals.

Sitework

Modules have slim profiles and are easily manoeuvred and connected on site; a 320kW, 5 module system can be assembled and ready for use in as little as 2 hours.

Cleaning and maintenance

Warranty: a warranty period of 12 months from delivery or 6 months from commissioning is also offered, and Armstrong can attend to site problems within 48 hours. Extended warranties are available on individual system components. Consult manufacturer for further details.

Part L Compliance
