Client:Ipswich Football Club
Architect: HOK SVE Ltd, London
Type of works: supply of structural glazing and aluminium cladding.

Alcover UK Ltd was asked to supply structural glazing and aluminium cladding for the main concourse and glazed curtain walling for the east and west bookend.

The concourse structural glazing, with a 400m² surface comprised mainly of top and bottom galvanised-steel sections fixed to the main steel structure.

The stadium has 96 glass panes. 20 panes were 16mm thick, fully clear, toughened and laminated. For safety reasons they complied with BS 6399:Part 2:1997, 'code of practice for wind loads.'

The remaining 76 panes were composed from semi-obscured glass. They were constructed from a laminated glass and Glaverbel Satinbel Imaging glass which offered a dimming appearance with a special satin, White, coating and at the same time allows light transmission inside the concourse. The glass pane was supplied 16mm thick and was constructed from 10mm clear, toughened laminated glass with pvb interlayer and 6mm toughened Glaverbel Satinbel Imaging glass.

The vertical joint was compatible with the pvb interlayer of the glazing supplied and has a partial White colour on the glass panes.

The external flashing was coated in Alcan FF2 Silver aluminium which is 2mm thick. The east and west stands of the stadium are constructed with 300m² bookend curtain walling. The surface comprises mainly of Metra Poliedra 50mm stick-system curtain walling. All aluminium profiles are thermally broken and are manufactured to DIN 4108.

The doors were supplied with Metra aluminium profiles, thermally broken. Top and bottom aluminium flashings were supplied 2mm thick. The double-glazed units are 30mm thick and are constructed from 6mm clear toughened glass for the outer pane, a 16mm air cavity and 8mm of clear, laminated glass on the inner pane.

The results and appearance of the work were very well received by the architect HOK SVE Ltd.
