Ferrari wind gallery

Client: Ferrari Spa, Maranello, Italy.
Job: Ferrari wind gallery, Maranello Italy.
Architect: Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW).
Type of works: supply of Metra curtain walling.

Alcover UK Ltd supplied the external envelope to the building which consisted of Metra curtain walling, a 50mm stick system in RAL 9006 Silver; 500m² was needed for the two floors.

All aluminium profiles were thermally broken to fulfil the requirements of frame material group 2.1, in accordance with DIN 4108. With the addition of bespoke gaskets, the curtain walling system fulfils the requirements of frame material group 1.1. The material has a U value of 1.5W/m²K. The outerpane is glazed with 6mm of Glaverbel Stopray Elite. A 16mm air cavity separates the outerpane from the 44.1mm clear-laminated safety glass.

The installation of the energy-saving curtain walling using Glaverbel Stopray Elite made the building comfortable. The curtain walling has a thermal installation U value of 1.5W/m²K, with a solar-energy reflection rating of 33% and a light transmission rating of 67%. It has invisible outward-opening units and a thermal break profile. The double-glazed unit is bonded to the aluminium profile with Dow Corning structural silicone, maintaining the integrity of the glazed curtain-wall screen.

The ground floor opening vents, where the workshop is located, are fully electrically operated.
