RooflightsThe Alcover Alcoglass® system is an advanced and versatile prefabricated aluminium frame and panel system, with high-performance characteristics.
The panels can be used either as fixed or opening units for daily ventilation and smoke evacuation. Applications can range from the more complex curved rooflights and continuous vaulted units, to segmented circular rooflights.
Large spans can be achieved without support steelwork. Alcoglass® is a bespoke system and panels are specially manufactured for each project. Alcover’s technical team will advise and assist with each scheme in providing calculations, developing CAD details and providing help with specifications writing. A fire-engineering design service is offered.
Composition and manufacture
Alcover systems comprise prefabricated, fully-glazed aluminium frames with slim sight-lines of as little as 50mm, which span between support members. The whole range of mullion and transom profiles of the Alcover system enables the company to carry out bespoke projects. Panels can incorporate an extensive range of single- or double-glazing solutions, with solar-control,
Low E, opaque, toughened and laminated safety panes or aluminium solid insulated if shading is required. Alcover rooflights systems are designed to support dead loads, wind and snow loading in accordance with BS 6399:Part 1:1984 and
BC CP 3; Chapter IV:Part 2. Safety panes, photovoltaic panels and aluminium solid insulation is also available if shading is required.

Systems are bespoke designed.
Appearance
Alcover products are supplied mill finish, anodised and polyester powder coated to BS 6496 from the standard RAL Syntha Pulvin or BS colour range.
Performance
Alcover rooflights with solar-control and low-emissivity glazing achieve a U value of 1.1W/m2K; and the aluminium frames with
thermally-broken profiles achieve Class 1 to standard DIN 4108. Panels and associated controls have been independently tested as natural smoke and heat-exhaust ventilators in accordance with BS 5516:1991 and BS 6262:1982.
