Alcover UK Ltd

Curtain-wall systems: Planar

The Alcover structural-glazing system provides extensive areas of frameless glass walls with resistance to structural and applied loads for vertical, horizontal, sloped or curved application in different types of building structures and rooflights.

An articulated bolt or rotule fitting allows for the absorption of differential movements between the support structure and the glass, ensuring that the fixing hole in the glass is not subjected to any bending during wind deflection or structural movements.
This system provides an economical solution suitable for use with single or double glazing, providing increased light transmission, and is available as part of a double-skin facade solution.

Alcover is a member of CWCT and a Total Quality Approved Company.

Composition and manufacture

Point-supported glass panels are suspended by standard or custom-designed brackets fixed to articulated bolts in each corner. The glass wall may be suspended from an overhead beam, or fixed to a rigid supporting structure.

The key element is the articulated bolt, which has a stainless-steel countersunk head, housing an integral spherical bearing with threaded stem. This is separated by a plastic-coated (PTFE) aluminium brushing layer with an internal stainless-steel locking washer, and interposed thermoplastic spacer. The stem provides the fixing point through a connection bracket to the supporting structure.

Single- or double-glazed units with float glass are toughened to conform with BS 6206:1981.
