Rainscreen claddingAlucobond® is manufactured by Alcan Singen GmbH. With its numerous product innovations and state-of-the-art production facilities, Alcan Singen has been a pioneer in the processing of aluminium for more than 90 years.
Production of Alucobond® started on a commercial basis in 1969. In addition to rainscreen cladding, the material is also regularly used for fascias and soffits, column casings, canopies and roof edgings.
Composition and manufacture
Alucobond® is composed of aluminium skins around a plastic or mineral core. This construction results in an impressive strength-to-weight ratio. 4mm of Alucobond® has the same rigidity as 3.3mm solid aluminium sheet, but is 40% lighter.
Appearance
One of the most common problems associated with metal cladding panels is the build-up of dirt around panel joints. One of the major causes of this is the use of gaskets or silicones. An Alucobond® rainscreen system eliminates the requirement for such items.
Sound properties
Rear-ventilated Alucobond® cladding considerably improves sound insulation. The sound insulation of a lightweight concrete wall is doubled when clad with Alucobond®. The loss factor, a measure of the acoustic sound-damping behaviour, of Alucobond is six times better than that of solid aluminium sheets.
Sitework
Due to its low weight, Alucobond® is easy to transport and handle on site. In some instances, panels are delivered flat-packed and are folded on site.
Environment
Both the core material and aluminium skins of Alucobond® are fully recyclable.
The material is ozone-friendly. No CFC is set free during its life cycle, and the core material does not contain any nitrogen, chlorine or sulphur.
