Abacus Lighting Ltd

Covered ways

For almost 40 years, Abacus has been committed to manufacturing street furniture and architectural canopies that combine pioneering design with engineering excellence. The Abacus covered walkway continues this tradition and has been specially designed to provide sheltered access for applications such as transport interchanges or building links.

The Abacus Entrance Canopy is an addition to the architectural canopy range, providing an architectural feature to the frontage of a building as well as sheltered access, essential for compliance with the recently introduced Disability Discrimination Act.

A bespoke approach to each project and careful consideration to styling and aesthetics ensures that the final design complements the building or the landscape for the particular project. Careful specification of materials assures product quality and satisfies the customer’s requirements both in terms of specification and budget. Abacus has the manufacturing capability and flexibility to offer total turn-key solutions, managing every step from design to manufacture and installation.

Composition and manufacture

The design of the covered walkway is based around a standard module consisting of tubular steel supports and optional roof designs. Roof structure consists of a galvanised and aluminium section, which are formed to a barrel-vault design, glazed with a minimum 10mm thick twin-wall polycarbonate sheet.

Additional options include an apex or mono-pitch roof glazed with clear polycarbonate or a step-down roof section for changing height levels, glazed with clear polycarbonate.

Appearance

All aluminium main components are powder-coat finished in most RAL colours. All steelwork is hot-dip galvanised to ISO 1461 and can be painted to customer’s specifications after erection. Glazing can be split in a variety of ways.
